On the face

To a strange

Mask of held back.

I know

I drew

Portraits

So I could

Look people

In the face

And the eyes

And not think

Everyone

Could read my mind.

You can tell

When the mask

Has been made

And when it

Breaks

Which is why

I drew

Wedding portraits

For friends

Because

They are

Happy

In them

And are surprised

When they get it

Because

They don’t know

I draw

And

I need to draw that instead

Of going back

Again.
